The aim of the workshop was to show how performance art pieces work and the role photography plays in performance art. I learned that performance art is about an instant moment or event that doesn't last and so photography is used to capture the moment. Throughout the day, my main role was to photograph these moments using multiple materials like fabrics, plasticine, sticks, thread, tape, paper, zip ties and more.
One of the first tasks was to use the materials we were given to create hand sculptures and and document the final sculpture using photos ad videos. I stuck strands of blue plasticine onto my fingers and taped the palm of my hand with black tape. I left the roll of tape positioned on top of my as this created a 3D form to the sculpture.
The next task was to place a piece of paper with a small hole in it over our cameras and take and image of something within the hole. The second gallery shows the final images and the first gallery shows what i was focusing on.
Another task was to use the different fabrics and materials to enhance our images. One way i used the materials in this image was by having two contrasting colours on opposite sides of the image. Furthermore, the two materials have different textures that also contrast. Jett is positioned between these two opposing sides with parts of his arms behind each of the fabrics.
The final task was to create 3D structures from of printed images. My sculpture is the one at the top with a hand reaching up. The photograph is of my hand against the plain background of a computer screen. I cut out the outline of my hand and folded it so it is vertical. I strengthened the structure by attaching the green sticks to the back.
WWW: Overall, i was able to finish all of the tasks and experiment afterwards using the materials we were given and the techniques we learnt.
EBI: I think that i could have used the materials and techniques i had learnt in the lesson to improve my own Year 10 architecture project.
For my architecture project, i think i could experiment with colour and texture in the images. Furthermore, i could experiment with 3D sculptures of the architecture. I could abstract these sculptures by changing the colour or shapes of certain parts of the architecture. This could work well since the architecture that i focus on is very minimal and full of sharp edges and geometric shapes.
